Have you ever heard of a sand dollar? You may have spotted them before at the beach if you’re lucky enough. They look like a circular piece of rock but in fact, they are living, breathing creatures!
Most of us have probably seen dead sand dollars, which are light-white to yellowy-green in color. But have you ever seen one alive? It’s both amazing and yet very creepy!

Sand dollars eat microscopic organisms floating in the water, which is why they have these extremely fine bristles. They catch the plankton then use the bristles to move it to the center where their mouth is. From now on I’ll have a much greater appreciation for the beautiful sand dollars found along the beach.
